This device is a compact, GPS-based positioning system with GSM/GPRS communication at a highly appealing price. By virtue of an especially wide operating voltage range (7-40 VDC), the MT-µL is compatible with the on-board power supply voltages of common motor vehicles. The device is optionally also available with a Li-Ion battery that permits continued operation for approx. one hour in the event of failure of the main power supply. The GSM/GPRS and GPS antenna connections are implemented as rugged, foolproof FAKRA contacts. The specified temperature range is in keeping with practical requirements at -30°C to +70°C. The compact form factor permits installation even in confined spaces.

By virtue of an especially wide operating voltage range (7-40 VDC), the MT-µL is compatible with the on-board power supply voltages of common motor vehicles. The system is configured using Enfora’s well tried “Comms & Scripting Manager”, which is based on AT commands. Initially, this is done using the RS-232 interface; subsequent configuration changes can be made at any time by SMS or GPRS. Typical MT-µL functions include transmitting the current position (periodically or after external triggering) and sounding an alarm if the vehicle leaves a predefined geographical area or the power supply fails. The message is transmitted by transmitting an SMS or a UDP or TCP data record to a server in each case.

The MT-µL supports central management of multiple parties. The available message formats permit, for example, simple integration of GPRS in existing server-based positioning systems. In this connection, transmission of position or status data is greatly simplified by the integral IP stack and the autoconnect function.

Besides the MT-µL tracking system, the MT-GL and Mini-MT positioning systems, which were likewise developed by Enfora, are also available from SE. Thanks to their wide-ranging compatibility, these systems can be operated on the same server without major adjustments in terms of software.

With the MT-µL device (ENFORA GSM2238-01), Enfora has now unveiled a GPS-based tracking system with GSM/GPRS communications capability that stands out by virtue of its very appealing price. Despite its compact structure (it measures just 63.5×63.5×24.4 mm) it is full-featured and easy to configure. The power supply is very flexible at 7-40 VDC (integral rechargeable battery EN-GSM2238-01). Configuration takes place via an RS-232 serial interface using the Enfora Comms & Scripting Manager. SE has already reported several times about this manager, which can be addressed using AT commands. Any changes in the configuration that may be necessary subsequently can, however, also be made by SMS or via GPRS. For example, the MT-µL can be configured to transmit the current position as an SMS at preset times or after activation of an input contact. It is also possible to configure an SMS alarm if the module leaves a previously defined geographical region. GPRS connection to aserver-based positioning system is uncomplicated and permits central management of many parties. Data transmission is greatly simplified by an integrated IP stack and an autoconnect function. Thanks to the wide-ranging compatibility of Enfora’s positioning systems, the new MT-uL can be operated together, for example, with the MT-GL or Mini MT on the same server.
